Ingredients
6 slices bread
1 can anchovies
60 g/ 2 oz butter
1 gherkin, sliced
1 hard-boiled egg, shelled and chopped

Method
Toast the bread and cut into squares. Reserve a few anchovies and mash the remainder with the butter to form a paste. Spread on the toast, garnish with the reserved anchovies, cut into strips, sliced gherkin and chopped egg.
