Crumbly Yeast Cake
(Ciasto Drożdżowe)

2 packets active dry yeast ( oz/14 g)
cup (125 ml) milk
1 cups (340 g) sugar
4 cups (440 g) flour
4 eggs
1 cup (225 g) butter
1 pinch vanilla sugar

2 cups (220 g) flour
cup (115 g) sugar
cup (115 g) butter
Optional: bakalie, nuts, sliced fruit

1.   Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

2.   Mix the yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar in the warm milk and let stand for 10 minutes.

3.   In a bowl, combine the dissolved yeast, flour, eggs, melted butter, vanilla sugar, and salt. The batter should be thick but not stiff.

4.   Pour the batter into a clean kitchen rag, and tie the top. Place it in a big bowl filled with cold water and wait until it floats to the top.

5.   Pour the batter back into a bowl, mix with the remaining sugar, cover with a paper towel, and set aside in a warm place for 1 hour.

6.   Prepare the crumble: Mix the flour and sugar in a bowl. Stir in the hot melted butter and mix with your hands until you get a crumbly mixture.

7.   Pour the risen dough into a greased baking pan and sprinkle the crumble on top.

8.   Optionally, you can place bakalie, nuts or some sliced fruit on top, like peaches, apples, pears or plums.

9.   Place in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes. You can sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy with a warm glass of milk.
