Fish and Chips

Hope someone can help. I am a fifytish American, who lived in England, around Woburn Abby. I remember the Fish and Chip cart coming to the house and the Fish and Chips were wraped in Newspaper. Here's my problem. The fish was not deep-fryed, but all the recipes I find have them deep-fryed. Does anyone have a recipe for Fish and Chips where the fish isn't deep-fryed? Thanks.

Hello Baldy........ there are many ways to cook fish....... and many different coatings too......... fish that is deep fried ( traditionally in England ) is normally coated with batter.......... you could maybe breadcrumb the fish and then either pan fry ... bake or grill etc .......... but be careful if you choose to grill as the breadcrumbs will burn quickly......... if it was me cooking....... then I would marinade the fish first, I would not coat it at all and I would then either grill or oven bake, this would be both tasty, wholesome and also quite healthy........ buy the way .......... chips are not good either, they too are deep fried, but hey ! we have to live a little......... right ! cheers... Hey Rick,
Thank you ,much. I stand corrected. I checked with my sisters and they both say the fish was deep fried. But, with a lite batter.(one where you could see the skin of the fish through it) So much for memory!(40+ years will do that to you ;>} ) They also said the batter was made with Ale and the whole was sprinkled with vinegar. Everyone remembers the 'great' taste! Now, I've got to find a recipe. You are right. Deep fried foods arn't good for you, nor is Barb-B-Queing, but. Sometimes, taste is everything.
