Ingredients

5ml/1 teaspoon oil
1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped
340g/12oz minced/ground beef
30g/1oz/2 tbsps plain/all-purpose flour
140ml/ ½ pint/ ½ cup beef stock
15ml/1 tablespoon tomato purée/paste
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Herb dumplings:

180g/6oz/1½ cups plain/all-purpose flour
2.5m1/½ teaspoon baking powder
Pinch dry mustard
60g/2oz/4 tablespoons margarine
2.5ml/ ½ teaspoon chopped oregano
2.5ml/ ½ teaspoon chopped thyme
2.5ml/ ½ teaspoon chopped marjoram
Approx. 70ml/4½ tablespoons milk

Method

Put the oil and the onion in a casserole and cook on HIGH for 3 minutes until soft. Add the beef and cook on HIGH for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the flour, stock, tomato puree/paste and seasoning.

 

To make the dumplings: sift the flour, baking powder, mustard and a pinch of salt into a mixing bowl. Rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the herbs.

 

Add the milk gradually and mix to form a soft dough. Divide the dough into eight balls. Arrange around the edge of the casserole. Cover and cook on LOW for 10-15 minutes until dumplings are cooked.
